The problems that Republic Moldova faces are multiple. To mention just a few of the important ones:
1. Poverty.
Moldova is the poorest country in Europe. Approximately half the population of Moldova is currently living below the poverty line.
2. Migration.
25% of the people are working abroad. Migration of Moldavians is one of the highest in the world. Remittances make about a third of Moldova's GDP
3. Human rights abuses.
Human rights are poor according to Amnesty International. Torture and ill-treatment were widespread.
4. Human Trafficking.
Moldova was put on the human trafficking blacklist by the American government. U.S. says Moldovan government officials help this modern slave trade
And of course there are many other problems in Moldova: free press is obstructed, the frozen conflict in Transnistria, the deep generation divide, the ethnic divide, etc.
There is no universal solution to all these problems. But one important part of any solution is international support. Moldova is not very often mentioned in the international news. There are no big investors willing to come to Moldova.
This country has been ignored for too long by the international powers, EU and US. Without international support, the problems in Moldova will only get worse.
